Lanquais village :
This town takes it name from the oak and chestnut forests which covered the area in Gallo-Roman times.
It is a remarkable and picturesque village; it has a beautiful castle, beautiful ancient historical buildings, a XVth century tithing barn and a majestic house in the style of the renaissance.
Travelling through the Dordogne valley you must discover the nearby villages of Couze and St Front, Lalinde, Badefols s/Dordogne and St Capraise de Lalinde.
The reputation of Lanquais gave rise to many legends: Thus, Lanquais is supposed to be the birthplace of St Avit at the end of the Vth century and more recently, St Front.
For your pleasure, there is a lake with several activities (bathing, ball games, table tennis…) waiting for you at Lanquais.

Lanquais Castle :
A historic monument since 1942, it is one of the most remarkable places in Périgord.
Situated 15 km from Bergerac, it is often called the "unfinished Louvre of Périgord".
Its architecture is rather unconventional and clearly shows an evolution over time which however resulted in this impressive and beautiful building that we see today. This combination of 3 architectural styles makes it look so ancient and so close to us at the same time.
- Medieval Construction – integrating all the elements of a fortified castle
- Renaissance construction – added to the medieval castle to turn it into a prestigious edifice devoted to the pleasures of life.
- XIX century construction and the outbuildings – through the centuries, the castle and surrounding buildings were transformed in order to further enlarge the property and expand its lively agricultural activities.

Lanquais Lake : Situated in an enchanting setting, the Lanquais reservoir is spread over 10 hectares at the foot of the castle grounds.
